Helping Australians in Their Pre-Retirement Decade
I’m Josh Kozis, a financial planner based in Newcastle and the Hunter region. I specialise in helping Australians aged 55–67 who have spent decades building real wealth — and are now in the most important financial decade of their lives.
Most of my clients have been smart with money their whole careers. They’ve built meaningful assets, contributed consistently to super, and made good decisions along the way. The question they bring to me isn’t “how do I start saving?” — it’s “how do I make sure everything I’ve built actually delivers the retirement I’ve worked for?”
That’s the work I do. Turning decades of accumulated wealth into a clear, tax-effective, income-generating retirement strategy — tailored to you, your partner, and the life you want to live.
What the ABFP® Means for You
My Accredited Behavioural Finance Professional (ABFP®) designation isn’t just a credential — it shapes how I work with every client. The transition from working life to retirement isn’t only a financial shift. It’s one of the biggest psychological transitions a person can make. Identity, purpose, routine, and relationships all change. I’m trained to help clients navigate that shift — so the plan we build together isn’t just mathematically sound, it’s one you’ll actually feel confident living.
For couples, this matters even more. Two people rarely approach money, risk, and retirement the same way. The ABFP® training helps me bring both partners into alignment — so you’re not just financially prepared, you’re on the same page about the life you’re building together.
What I Do as a Financial Planner
I work with clients across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter region, Sydney, the Central Coast, and Tasmania — and with digital appointments available, I work with Australians nationwide.
My services include:
- Retirement income planning and Transition to Retirement (TTR) strategies
- Maximising superannuation contributions in the years before you finish work
- Centrelink and Age Pension optimisation
- Tax-effective investment portfolio structuring
- Cashflow modelling — “Can I afford to retire at 62?” answered with numbers, not guesswork
- Standalone personal insurance review (life, TPD, income protection and trauma)
A Bit About Me
Financial planning takes up a lot of my world — but it’s not the whole story. Away from work, I spend time with my wife Bec and our Border Collie, Luna. You’ll often find me reading, tackling a home renovation project, or chasing down some new idea to explore. Friday night is beer and barbecue night, usually with some 70s and 80s tunes in the background.
I believe the best client relationships are built on genuine trust — and trust starts with being straight-talking, curious, and genuinely invested in the outcome. That’s the kind of adviser I aim to be.
